 As is the case of all the traditional melodies, the dantzari decides which steps he will use to dance the txakolin. Apart from the rules set out in the chapter dedicated to the ancient melodies, the structure of each ancient melody has to be taken into account for the choreographic composition.
This is what Juan Ignacio Iztueta says about this ancient melody: “The txakolin has two parts and 16 points and both parts are played twice. 32 points have to be danced in the following manner:
The first part has 8 points and the dantzari has to take 8
The second part has two points and the dantzari has to take 8
This txakolin is danced when merrymaking in the town halls and to mark other celebration. A cross is formed with two ropes or walking sticks, placed at each one of its four sides and [the dantzari ] performs the movements with his two feet at the same time and with one foot always being on the cross".
