There are other movements that, without being considered steps, are nonetheless highly important as part of the steps themselves as they link the different steps. Demi-plié is the name of the movement that is performed by simultaneously bending and extending both knees. In the initial position, the dancer begins by bending both knees, so his waist moves down towards the floor, but his body is kept erect and straight. The knees have to be bent in the direction of the tips of the dancer's feet and before his heels begin to lift up, he then raises his body by straightening his knees again. The demi-plié is sometimes used to break the inertia and obtain impulsion, such as when performing leaps and gallops. It is sometimes used to absorb the impact when landing after a jump, as in the case with the leaps. | |
