The single is performed as follows: During the first point or beat, [the dantzari] has to perform four movements or beats with both feet, as follows: 1.- Lifting his right foot, with the tip towards the side and downward, he moves outwards. 2. He places [the right foot] on the ground one and a half span from the left foot, with the heel in the air and pointed towards the instep of the left foot. 3.-Lifting the left foot up, [the dancer] places it in such a way that the right heel touches the instep. 4.- He raises the right foot and then places the whole sole on the floor half a foot span in front. During the second phase, [the dantzari) has to perform another four movement in the same way, beginning with the left foot. I will explain how it should be done so to make it clearer: 1. Lifting his right foot, with the tip towards the side and downward, [the dancer] moves outwards. 2.He places [the right foot] on the ground one and a half span from the right foot, with the heel in the air and pointed towards the instep of the right foot. 3.- Lifting the right foot up, [the dantzari] places it in such a way that the left heel touches the instep. 4.- He raises the left foot and then places the whole sole on the floor half a foot span in front. During the third phase, he performs two movements as follows: 1.- Lifting the right foot up and stretching it out as far as possible to the side, he hits the lowest part of the left shinbone with the outer maleolous of the right ankle. 2.- He places the right foot half a span behind the left one, in a transversal direction, and with the instep facing the left ankle. Two movements are performed in the fourth phase as follows: 1.-Raising the heel of your left foot, slide the tip of the foot over the floor and hit the outer maleolous of your ankle against the lowest part of the right shinbone. 2.- Place the same left foot flat down on the floor, half a span in front, in the same place as before. To begin the fifth phase, you will have to place the right floor half a span in front and completely flat on the floor. Exactly the same movements have to be performed in the fifth phase as in the second. In the sixth phase, the same as the first. In the seventh phase, your left foot has to do the same steps as you did with the third phase in the third phase. In the eight phase, your right foot has to do the same steps as you did with your left one in the fourth phase. The zortziko finishes at this point. In order to get ready to perform the following step, you have to move your left foot in the same way as you moved your right foot in the transition from the 4th to 5th phase. In all the movements, the music always has to end on the last two points or beats, as I explained in the seventh and eighth. Therefore, whatever the type of number of movements that the dantzari performs in the six first points, he always to keep the other two points, in other words, the seventh and eighth, in order to end the music as I have indicated. |
