Bullet1 This list of steps used in the Gipuzkoa dances is based on the research carried out by Ikerfolk, particularly by the dance masters, Iñaki Arregi, Fernando Aristizabal and Jexux Larrea, who performed this task under the supervision of Juan Antonio Urbeltz and Marian Arregi. This paper is based on the descriptions of steps that Juan Ignacio Iztueta described in his 1824 book, Gipuzkoako dantza gogoangarrien kondaira edo historia, and in the teachings of the dance masters that have been passed down in the oral tradition.

Bullet1 This patrimony has been systematized and disseminated by means of practical courses. The manual for those courses was published in the first issue of Jira Galdua in 1998, where it appeared as Tabla gimnástico-coreográfica de los maestros de baile guipuzcoanos. Using that paper as our basis, we have here included  our descriptions, explanations and videos of the main steps used in the traditional dances of Gipuzkoa.

Bullet1 This list of steps has become the ABC of the dantzari to perform the dances of Gipuzkoa. After learning the various steps, he has to learn how to link them together. In the “Exercises” section, you will find various practical exercises to learn how to combine the steps. These combinations are known as Mudanzas (Movements) and are not danzas in the true sense of the word, but rather simple exercises for the dantzari to perfect his technique.
