         EXPLANATION OF THE DANCE

The dancers line up in two lines headed by their leader. When the music starts the leader dances the zortziko, performing all the combinations of steps that he knows and showing off his skill. Then all the dancers perform the main call, followed by the zortziko. Finally, they perform the set of steps with the short sticks.

         STEPS
At the beginning of each phrase in the set the dancers give a small jump and put their left feet forward. After two sets in each position –one with the dancer in the next lone and the other with the dancer in the same line- the dancers move to another position, making use of the small jump that introduces the next set.

         movements
Do dance the zortziko and perform the set of moves with the sticks the dancers make their movements in groups of four. With each movement the dancers shift one place anti-clockwise.


         implements
Two sticks are used to make the 11 moves in each set. Each dancer makes the first four moves while facing the dancer opposite, then turns to the right starting with the fifth blow so that the last blow is delivered once again facing the dancer with whom the first b low was exchanged.

  4. Knock left stick against left stick of dancer opposite
  5. Knock right stick against left stick
  6. Raise right knee and knock left stick with right stick under calf
  7. Knock right stick against left stick
  8. Raise left knee and knock left stick with right stick under calf
  9. Cross hands behind back and knock right stick against left stick behind
  10. Bring sticks together in front
  11. Hold both sticks together & knock against sticks of dancer opposite
