The leader carries a type of lance, the dantzaris hoes or ball weeders and each group of four dantzaris is accompanied by a fifth one carrying a swollen wineskin.

Iztueta described it thus:
“The leader has to carry a long staff with a sharp iron point at one end.”
A type of lance is now used consisting of a wooden stick with an iron point at one end and decorated with coloured ribbons.

They are similar hoes to those normally used to work the soil. They are narrow, light and easy to handle during the dance.

There are wineskins filled with air.
