They are danced on Carnival Saturday and Sunday. In the morning, the dancers go from farmstead to farmstead collecting gifts and then perform the carnival dances in the town square at midday. The dantzaris are divided into 2 or 3 groups of eight people. The kapitaina, the sarjentua and two espentzieroak entrusted with collecting the donations join the dantzaris in this carnival tradition. The dance cycle consists of ten dances: paseoa, lehengoa, bigarrena, seigarrena, ostiko-dantza, eltze-dantza, lau ostikoak, azken paseoa, makila-dantza and pala-dantza. They usually dance the etxe-dantza when they visit the farmsteads. The Lizartza soka-dantza is danced on September 8th, the feast day of Our Lady. The dance group that usually perform the carnival dances are entrusted with dancing the soka-dantza. In olden day, the dantzaris of the carnival dance group that had played the part of captain and sergeant are usually the aurresku and atzesku in the soka-dantza in September.
