          Soka-dantza or aurresku

Bullet1 There are two occasions throughout the year when the soka-dantza is danced in full in Zarautz. The local Iratzarri and Mollarri dance groups are entrusted with dancing the soka-dantza in the square. On June 23rd, St. John’s eve, the Iratzarri dance group perform the aurresku in the Plaza de la Música oppoiste the ash tree planted  there for the occasion.

Bullet1 The young people from the Iñurritza neighbourhood, most of whom belong to the Mollarri dance group, dance the soka-dantza as part of the local festivities. These district festivities are also celebrated by the town, as San Pelayo is the patron saint of Zarautz. On June 26th, San Pelayo’s Feast Day, the aurresku is danced after the midday high mass.
